 Join the annual KY Leaders of Tomorrow® BBQ Fundraiser.  Established in 1970, the National Black MBA Association is dedicated to the core mission of increasing the intellectual and economic wealth of African Americans. The National Black MBA Association – Louisville Chapter (dba National Black MBA Association – Kentucky Chapter) is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization that brings the national mission to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 

 The Kentucky Leaders of Tomorrow® is a yearlong, after school program that serves as the primary means by which the Kentucky Chapter manifests the association’s mission for high school students by teaching them leadership, financial literacy, and college and career preparation. Additionally, two scholarships are awarded to participating students each year.

U of L Scholarship Opportunity

National Black MBA Association – Kentucky Chapter (KYNBMBAA) has a new scholarship for active members pursuing an MBA degree at University of Louisville (UofL).

KYNBMBAA and UofL’s School of Business have partnered to offer this unique opportunity for our valued members. This is a merit-based scholarship for enrolled MBA students who are actively involved in the chapter. The required criteria is below:

  • Recipients must be enrolled in the UofL MBA program
  • Recipients must be active members of KYNBMBAA for at least one year
  • Recipients must serve on the E-Board OR Committee for at least one year
  • Recipients must volunteer at at least one of KYNBMBAA events
  • Recipients must attend at least one of the following within the calendar year: Professional Development event, Third Thursday Happy Hour, and/or LOT session(s)
  • Scholarship dollars may only be applied against tuition for an MBA program at the University of Louisville.

Since its inception in 1991, the NBMBAA® Leaders of Tomorrow® Program has mentored more than 8,000 talented youth aspiring to leadership roles in professional fields. The LOT® Program is a comprehensive programmatic approach for providing leadership development  to high school students. The program is driven by mentoring across four developmental areas:

Leadership, Financial Literacy, College Preparations and Career Preparation.
The program offers participants resources, knowledge and opportunities in the way of mentoring relationships, scholarships, and internships.

Chapter Leaders 
We’re Looking for Chapter Leaders!
The Kentucky Chapter is currently preparing for the 2018 Officer Elections. Below you will find a brief description of all open executive board positions. The President, VP of Finance, and Director of Marketing & Communications roles are open. However, if you are interested in a role that is not open, you can shadow the current officer with the intent to segue into next year’s elections. Executive board members are always in need of committee members to support their work.
 
If you are interested in one of these volunteer roles, please send a short description of which role you are interested in, a bio, and a resume to kynbmbaa@gmail.com with the subject line: 2019 KYBlackMBA Officer Elections. Additionally, members can submit nominations via the same process. 
 
All chapter officers must be NBMBAA members and will be subject to a background check. The application deadline is December 7, 2018 at midnight.
 
 
Open Roles
PresidentThe President shall serve as the chief executive officer of the Chapter by developing goals and objectives for the Chapter that are aligned with the NBMBAA mission statement. All elected officers and ad-hoc committee directors shall report directly to this office. For a full description:

 
Vice President, Finance For the 2019-2020 term the main objective of this role will be to establish a sustainable financial reporting framework and structure. To this end, a strategic plan and budget for long term sustainability will be required by the end of Q1 2019. Additionally, this role will require the establishment of a committee. The current VP of Finance will still be engaged in 2019 to assist as needed and act as the first committee person. For a full description:

Director of Marketing and Communications – This person shall take full ownership of all chapter marketing and communications, which includes website, email and snail mail newsletters, social media, public relations, digital media, traditional media, print advertising, and event marketing for the 2019-2020 term. As this is a large scope of responsibility, this person will be required to provide a strategic plan and budget for marketing and communications by the end of Q1 2019. Additionally, this role will require the establishment of a committee. For a full description:

 
 
Officers Who Need Committee Members
Vice President, OperationsThe primary objective of this role for the 2019-2020 term will be to implement process improvements in the operations of the Chapter. This includes project management, event operations, officer elections, travel logistics, and application processes. As this is a large scope of responsibility, this person will be required to provide a strategic plan and budget for operations by the end of Q1 2019. Additionally, this role will require the establishment of a committee. For a full description:

 
Vice President, AdministrationFor the 2019-2020 term the main objective of this role will be to increase chapter membership. To this end, a strategic plan and budget for increased membership will be required by the end of Q1 2019. Additionally, this role will require the establishment of a committee. The Monthly Newsletter will have a New Feature – Member Spotlight.  We would like to recognize those special life events.  Rather it is a New Business Venture, Job change or promotion, Awards or Recognitions, Graduation, Birthdays, Marriages, Births, or Anniversaries.  Our Members are the life of the organizations and what better way to honor those special moments.

What is the Leaders of Tomorrow® Program?

The program offers participants resources, knowledge and opportunities in the way of mentoring relationships, scholarships, and internships.
 
 
 
Since the re-launch in 2014, the Kentucky Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT)® Program has had a profound impact on high school students in Louisville, Kentucky. With an unyielding commitment to youth this program has:


 
 
    • Created opportunities for about 20 students annually
    • Provided a total of $6,500 in scholarships in 3 years
    • Participated in 3 National Business Case Competitions and 2 Boot Camps
    • Continuously built Louisville’s pipeline of leaders
 
 

The 2018 – 2019 LOT® Program is under way as we continue a rich tradition of mentoring talented high school students to prepare them for the future. 


 
We were already able to send Four of our Top Students to National Conference in Detroit MI this past September for the Annual LOT® STEM & Leadership Camp. Our Chapter ranked on of top Leaders of Tomorrow® Programs in the Nation. Our students were also featured throughout the program.  We thank all those who have and continue to support our LOT® Program either by Volunteering or by Donation.

Provide teens opportunities to learn about the business world and guide them as they explore, plan, and prepare for a successful career.

The Students of the Kentucky Chapter LOT are fundraising Krispy Kreme Donut certificates to cover travel expenses to attend the Leadership Summit & National Case Competition in June 2019. The highlight of the LOT® Leadership Summit is the annual National Business Case Competition which is designed to help participants develop real-world critical thinking and problem-solving skills by addressing a business case study.  Spring Semester, our student will be receiving a Real World MBA Level Business Case to prepare for next year’s competition to win recognition and scholarship funds.
